Grand Island Area Economic Development Corporation
The Grand Island Area Economic Development Corporation's primary purpose
is to help existing business and industry to grow as well as bring
new business and industry to the Grand Island area. With the passage
of the Economic Development Plan in 2003, the EDC is poised to continue
its role in providing more and better paying jobs for Grand Island.

City of Grand Island
The City of Grand Island was founded in 1872 and was known as Le Grande
Isle by French fur traders as early as the 1700s. A heavy German immigration
to the area led to the city's founding and growth, and the many goals
and ideas of our
city’s forefathers created the strong foundation on which Grand
Island was built. Today, Grand Island offers many things found only in
much larger
cities.
Hall County
Grand Island is located in and is the county seat of Hall County Nebraska.
Located in south central Nebraska, Hall County is rich in agriculture,
while maintaining a thriving city life. To the benefit of those who live
here, the Grand Island City Council, and the Hall County Board work
closely together to offer the programs and services that residents
expect and require.
Convention and Visitors Bureau
The primary goal of the Hall County Convention and Visitors Bureau
is to promote Grand Island and Hall County to visitors and conventions
coming to Grand Island. Many organizations, including the Nebraska State
Fire School, find Grand Island the perfect location for their meetings
year after year. Visitors to the area find fun activities, great shopping,
and grand
hospitality.
Leadership Tomorrow
Leadership Tomorrow promotes leadership by providing an educational
program for individuals from diverse backgrounds who demonstrate leadership
ability and commitment to the community. History, economics, business
and industry
are all focal points to help those who
participate
increase
their level of awareness, and set about their endeavors with a fresh
approach. Leadership Tomorrow has impacted a variety of individuals who
have gone
on to pursue leadership positions in a variety of capacities throughout
the county.
Central Nebraska Regional Airport
The Central Nebraska Regional Airport is central Nebraska’s premier
airpark providing flights in and out of Grand Island daily. Soon to be
home of the 18 million dollar Army National Guard - First of the One
Twenty Fourth Air Calvary Squadron Apache Helicopter Base. This base
will be armed with 230 cavalry and aviation maintenance soldiers – equating
to a $3 million payroll.
Grand Island boasts educational excellence through neighborhood
elementary schools, three high schools, and post secondary education
to complete the experience. The Grand
Island Public School System offers K-12 opportunities,
while Grand
Island Northwest offers grades 9 through 12 and Central
Catholic offers middle and high school learning. Other
parochial educational opportunities include Grand Island Christian,
Trinity Lutheran and Heartland
Lutheran High School.
Post-secondary education includes Central
Community College, Bellevue
University - Grand Island and Doane
College at College Park. These
education centers offer a wide array of course offerings and the necessary
skills to follow life’s dream.
Saint Francis Medical Center
With
over 100 physicians in Grand Island, central Nebraskans have come to
depend on Grand Island as a hub for healthcare. Grand Island’s
clinics include a number of specialty practices as well as family care.
Saint Francis Medical Center offers services that rival hospitals in
much larger communities. With the Cancer Treatment Center and Heart
Hospital, Saint Francis provides an ever-growing base of treatments,

Stuhr Museum
of the Prairie Pioneer is Nebraska’s only living
history museum. Step back into the 1800s with a visit to railroad
town and see how the settlers in our area began to prosper on the prairie.

Meadow Nature Center
Crane
Meadow Nature Center is the primary stop for travelers
when viewing the Sand Hill Cranes each spring. Throughout the
year, nature lovers
utilize Crane Meadows for hikes along the Platte River with a number
of wildlife species in the distance to be seen and enjoyed.
Fonner Park
At Fonner Park, Nebraska’s premier thoroughbred horse racing track,
you’ll find live racing February through May of each year,
and Simulcast racing throughout the year.
Heartland
Event Center
The new multipurpose Heartland Events Center at Fonner Park in Grand
Island will celebrate its official grand opening later this year.
The center complements the current Fonner Park complex consisting
of Fonner Park, Island Oasis Water Park, and the softball fields
and soccer fields.
Mid Nebraska
Speedway
Mid Nebraska Speedway,
just south of Grand Island, offers automobile racing with Late Models,
IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, Cruisers and
more. It’s weekend fun with special events throughout the summer.
Island
Oasis Waterpark
For the entire family, there’s Island Oasis Waterpark, with super
slides and wave pools to cool off on a hot summer day.
Kids’ Kingdom
Kids’ Kingdom
is a playground designed by and for kids and is located in Grand
Island’s
Stolley Park. Kids’ Kingdom was a community effort to raise
the funds, and build the playground plank by plank. Kids’ Kingdom
also offers train rides, while Stolley Park offers a beautiful
setting for picnics
and gatherings.
The Heartland Public Shooting Park
The Heartland Public Shooting Park features sporting clays, trap, and skeet shooting for shooting enthusiasts. Located west of Grand Island, the sport shooting facility includes a seven acre lake and a rifle and pistol shooting facility. Future plans include up to 25 miles of equestrian and pedestrian trails, camping sites, retriever training and field trials, and other outdoor recreational opportunities.
