Facilities

With the Nebraska State Fair and the ensuing development of meeting, exhibit and special event facilities, Grand Island has taken its rightful place beside Omaha and Lincoln as a destination city. Facilities constructed for the Nebraska State Fair include more than 430,000 square feet of livestock and exhibition buildings. The community’s 875,000 square feet of meeting, event and exhibit space, and nearly 2,000 hotel rooms, make Grand Island the premiere site in the mid-west for regional and national trade shows, and for simultaneously hosting multiple events.

Bosselman Conference Center

Located within the Heartland Events Center is the 8,000 square foot Bosselman Conference Center.  The Bosselman Conference Center offers a professional setting for trainings, conferences, large banquet events, organizational functions, and business and educational meetings. State-of-the-art audio and video equipment and professional catering services provide the amenities necessary to host a successful event.

Community Field House

The 70,000 square foot Community Field House at Fonner Park features a portable synthetic turf floor, an indoor playground, and a sports floor ideal for soccer, flag football, volleyball, basketball, and baseball.

Heartland Event Center

The Heartland Events Center, located at Fonner Park, is the perfect location for conventions, trade shows, athletic and sporting events, concerts and more. The 180,000 square foot facility is attractive and spacious. With seating capacity of 7,500, residents and visitors to Grand Island have enjoyed concerts by legendary country artists such as Martina McBride and Willie Nelson; and new artists like Blake Shelton and The Band Perry. Comedians, including Larry the Cable Guy, Jeff Foxworthy and Bill Engvall, as well as classic rock groups, round out the entertainment. The arena is surrounded by breakout rooms, locker rooms and dressing rooms with the technical equipment necessary for sporting events and tournaments.

Fonner Park

This multi-purpose event and conference facility is the perfect place for conferences, meetings, and trade shows and can easily meet the needs of a variety of events.
With over 425,000 square feet of state-of-the-art livestock and exhibition facilities, Grand Island is the premiere site for national livestock and agricultural shows. These climate controlled facilities boast large wash bays, concrete floors, drive through loading aisles and tie-out areas. Easy access from Interstate 80 and proximity to lodging, dining and shopping establishments make Grand Island and Fonner Park an attractive choice. The Thompson 4-H Horse Arena (indoor and outdoor), along with 15 barns, allows for horse shows and competitions such as the Nebraska State 4-H Horse Show.

Seasonal full-service recreational vehicle parking is also available.

Heartland Public Shooting Park

Located west of Grand Island, the 420-acre Heartland Public Shooting Park is a shooting-enthusiast’s paradise. It offers sporting clays, trap and skeet shooting, a rifle and pistol shooting facility, plus an archery range and seven-acre lake. National events such as Super Retriever Series Trials and the 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational Championships have been held here. Camping sites are also available. Future plans include 25 miles of equestrian and pedestrian trails.

Livestock and Agricultural Show Facilities

The $42 million of livestock, exhibition and agricultural buildings at Fonner Park, make Grand Island a desired site for national livestock, equine, and agricultural associations from across the United States.  These modern, state-of-the art facilities are among the premiere such facilities in the Midwest and have attracted national livestock shows including the Shorthorn Junior National Shows, American Boer Goat Association, and Hereford Junior National Shows.

Nebraska State Fair

Grand Island is proud to be the host community for the Nebraska State Fair. More than 330,000 people attend the Fair annually. As Nebraska’s largest entertainment event with concerts, strolling acts, fair food, shopping and the carnival midway, the Nebraska State Fair is fun for the entire family. Exhibitors from 4-H, FFA and Open Class participate in various competitions, including livestock and equine. The Nebraska State Fair is held at Fonner Park in late August every year.

Veterans Athletic Field Complex

Grand Island’s 80-acre Veterans Athletic Field Complex has four lighted softball and soccer fields, with plans underway for expansion. This complex hosts over 5,000 baseball and softball players each year.

Grand Island Little Theatre

gilt-4Featuring five regular season shows and a variety of special events, Grand Island Little Theatre has been offering community theater to the Grand Island area since 1960. With a mission to entertain, educate and enlighten, you are sure to find a production that interests you at the Grand Island Little Theatre.

Movie Theaters

First-run movies can be seen on any of the seven big screens at The Starplex Cinema, located in the Conestoga Mall. For a more majestic setting, the historic Grand Island Theatre, located downtown, offers second-run movies on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.  The “Grand” was renovated in 2005 to its’ original design and is a treasured landmark.

Bowling

bowlingBowling for young and old alike can be enjoyed at two state-of-the-art full-service bowling alleys.  The Westside Lanes Bowling Alley is located at 112 Kaufman and features a game room and lounge.  Super Bowl is located at 1212 Bismark Road and features a lounge, dining, and game room. Both offer league bowling, birthday parties, and group bowling.
