    Job Description

    GSI is seeking experienced candidates for a full-time Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Technician position in our Grand Island, Nebraska office. Successful candidates will have the desire and ability to work both indoors and/or outdoors in all climates with occasional regional travel (based on availability). This is a great opportunity for a motivated person with the desire to build strong technical skills, develop written communication skills while taking accurate and complete field and laboratory notes, and grow written and verbal communication skills while interacting with clients and all levels of GSI staff. 


    Responsibilities Include: 

    • Perform field and laboratory tests on construction materials including soil, rock, concrete, and asphalt. 

    • Perform field and laboratory tests on Portland cement concrete 

    • Perform field and laboratory tests on soil and aggregate 

    • Perform field tests on masonry 

    • Observe reinforcing steel for bar size, spacing, overlaps  

    • Maintain clean jobsite and laboratory work areas, maintain a clean vehicle (provided by GSI for work use). 

    • Maintain technically accurate and detailed field and laboratory testing reports. 

    • Follow health and safety protocol in accordance with all local, state, and federal regulations, and/or project specific requirements. 

    • Ensure compliance with testing methods and procedures. 

    Note: GSI provides training for all job responsibilities using a combination of training videos, hands-on training, and courses/certifications provided by others (OSHA, American Concrete Institute (ACI), KDOT, etc.) 

     
    Qualifications and Training:  

    • Successfully complete Radiation Safety Training within three weeks of employment. 

    • Obtain American Concrete Institute Grade I Field Testing Technician Certification within six months of employment. 

    • Ability to read and comprehend construction plans and specifications (training provided).  

    • The ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally. 

    • Valid driver’s license, insurable driving record, and ability to pass pre-employment drug screen. 

    Preferred Qualifications:  

    • American Concrete Institute Grade I Field Testing Technician Certification. 

    • Graduate or student in Civil Engineering or Geology.
