• Commercial Truck Driver (CDL)

    Job Description
    Drives a gasoline- or diesel-powered tractor-trailer combination truck to transport products. Home most nights, works Monday through Friday, and travels mainly in-state. Loads and unloads product, completes a daily truck log, complies with all DOT and in-house regulations and rules, and conducts daily inspections of the vehicle. 23 years of age or older, has a CDL Class A License, over-the-road experience, and no major violations within the past 3 years. Passes DOT physical, drug, and alcohol screens.

    Essential Functions Statement(s)
    • Drives truck to and from destination as designated by the Shipping Supervisor.
    • Inspects truck for defects before and after trips and submits reports indicating truck condition.
    • Maintains driver log according to Interstate Commerce and DOT rules and regulations.
    • Maintains maintenance log and schedules routine tune-ups.
    • Responsible for loading and unloading truck and making sure loads are secure.
    • Follows all applicable company, state, and federal safety guidelines.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    Competency Statement(s)
    • Language Skill - Ability to read and write simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
    • Mathematical Skills - Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
    • Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
    Education/Experience: One-year certificate from college or technical school or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: CDL (Commercial Driver's License) Class A License and forklift certification required. Operating vehicles of this class & weight under random drug and/or alcohol screenings in a consortium of other drivers Global Industries participates in compliance with DOT regulations. Must also be forklift certified.
    Other Preferences: Must be able to travel 50% of the time; must be able to pass random DOT physical, drug, and/or alcohol screenings; general manufacturing knowledge preferred.
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and talk; or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  Must be able to pass DOT physical as set forth by DOT regulations to maintain a valid CDL License.
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
