Grand Island boasts educational excellence through neighborhood elementary schools, middle schools, three high schools, and post secondary education. The Grand Island Public School System offers K-12 opportunities, while Grand Island Northwest serves grades 9 through 12 and Central Catholic offers middle and high school learning. Other parochial educational opportunities include Grand Island Christian, Trinity Lutheran, and Heartland Lutheran High School.
Career Pathways Institute
To further enhance the area’s workforce, Grand Island Public Schools developed the Career Pathways Institute, a cutting-edge, 21st Century Learning experience for area high school students who are interested in technical or industrial careers that require a high level of specialized training. Through the result of collaborative efforts between the Public Schools, Central Community College, Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Corporation, and private businesses, this project helps meet an increased demand by Grand Island’s existing and prospective businesses for a larger skilled workforce in some of the area’s fastest growing careers.
Central Community College
Central Community College is a two-year college serving a 25-county area in central Nebraska. The Grand Island Campus offers career and technical programs leading to some of today’s hottest careers in business, healthcare, information technology, communications and skilled and technical sciences. The campus also offers a full array of courses geared toward an associate of applied science degree, diploma or certificate. Students who plan to earn a bachelor’s degree can complete their first two years of study at CCC, receiving either an associate of arts degree or an associate of science degree before transferring to a four-year college or university. Plus, the Grand Island Campus Industrial Academy provides an education in advanced manufacturing technology, welding and related topics for students who are interested in preparing for careers in manufacturing.
Doane University in Grand Island offers nine undergraduate and four graduate degrees. Courses, advising, and all student support services are available at the Grand Island campus in the College Park building. Doane programs are largely designed for students who are balancing work and family while earning a college degree.
For more than twenty years Bellevue University has been meeting the needs of central Nebraska adult students with flexible class schedules, innovative, career-relevant degree programs, and articulation policies that help students earn credit for what they know. By offering online classes in addition to traditional classes, students can learn when their schedule allows.
