City of Grand Island

EagleCityHallGrand Island is a full-service municipality, providing essential services such as police, fire, and building inspections as well as electricity, sanitary sewer, and wastewater treatment. Grand Island has a Mayor-Council form of government. The City Council, as the governing body, adopts ordinances and determines policy which directs City government. The ten-member City Council is comprised of two representatives from each of the five voting wards.

The mission of the City of Grand Island is to enhance the quality of life in the Grand Island community, to recognize the vitality and diversity of our neighborhoods, and to promote development by providing effective and responsive services through vision, respect and courtesy.

Grand Island is proud to be the home for State of Nebraska training and support facilities.

The Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center is located near the Central Nebraska Regional Airport in Grand Island. The Center educates, trains, and evaluates law enforcement officers. The Center offers modern facilities and up to date training for law enforcement and related criminal justice disciplines.

Located just east of the Airport is the Nebraska Army Aviation Support Facility which serves 225 cavalry and aviation maintenance National Guard soldiers. Helicopters based at this facility include five Chinooks which are used to move troops and heavy artillery, and four light utility helicopters which are used to perform reconnaissance and provide medical assistance.

A $22 million Nebraska National Guard Readiness Center located southeast of the Nebraska Army Aviation Support Facility was completed in May 2014 and is used to train new and experienced soldiers in aviation. The 92,000 square-foot building has several classrooms and two recruiting offices.

Hall County

Grand Island is located in and is the county seat of Hall County, Nebraska. County government is overseen by seven elected officials serving as the County Board. County government functions also include county assessor, deeds, treasurer, clerk and other services.

Public Safety

Grand Island goes the extra mile to make this community a safe and secure place to live. The Grand Island Police Department provides municipal police services, including patrol, emergency response, criminal investigation and apprehension, crime prevention, and community-based programs.
