There are many factors at play which contribute to the forward progress that is happening in Grand Island and awareness of where we stand as a community in comparison to our peers is key among them. There has been intentional action taken in recent years to solidify our standing amongst our peers and I am thrilled to witness the engagement and energy of many organizations and individuals as they step up to move us forward. Agriculture and manufacturing lie at the heart of Grand Island’s economy. Agricultural manufacturing and food production account for nearly 7,000 jobs in our community. Wednesday, August 4, 2021Late summer and early fall is a busy time for Grand Island. From the last week of August through early October, the community hosts a number of events that draw hundreds of thousands of visitors. To make those events successful, many volunteers are needed, whether it’s the Nebraska State Fair, Husker Harvest Days, Aksarben Stock Show or Harvest of Harmony. Read more(0) Comments
Monday, May 31, 2021Even before the Nebraska State Fair officially opened in Grand Island in 2010, Ben Murphy was a State Fair volunteer. He began volunteering as the fair was preparing to open for its community debut in the community, and logged a total of 80 hours of volunteer work that year. Murphy has been volunteering ever since.
